Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Thomas J. Gilbert III, who serves patients in Cockeysville, Maryland.

A seasoned emergency physician, Dr. Gilbert III is the Medical Director of MVS Wound Care & Hyperbarics in Cockeysville, Maryland. He has extensive experience in the delivery of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and advanced wound care.

MVS Wound Care & Hyperbarics is Baltimore’s largest privately-held AAAHC accredited wound care and hyperbaric medical practice. It is led by a multidisciplinary team comprised of vascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, general surgeons, podiatrists, primary care doctors, nurse practitioners, and certified wound care nurses and hyperbaric technicians. It offers wound care services in 8 locations: Abingdon, Cockeysville, Columbia, Glen Burnie, Rosedale, Pikesville, Towson, and Westminster.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Gilbert III graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the AT Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in emergency medicine at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in emergency medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM). The AOBEM is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of acutely ill patients with advanced cardiac life support, trauma, and the management of other life-threatening medical issues (emergency physicians).

Achieving fellowship status, Dr. Gilbert III is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Medicine, Fellow of the American College Hyperbaric Medicine, and Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association. He is also a member of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Society.

Prior to his work with MVS Wound Care & Hyperbarics, he was instrumental in starting the hyperbaric program at Meritus Health in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
