A graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Dr. Chao went on to complete her residency in general surgery at Mary Immaculate Hospital, a Division of Catholic Medical Center. Thereafter, she completed her residency in nuclear medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Cornell Campus, followed by her residency in family medicine at E.A. Conway Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. 

Following her education, the doctor became board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Emergency medicine is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. Emergency physicians care for unscheduled and undifferentiated patients of all ages. An emergency physician is a physician who works at an emergency department to care for ill patients. They specialize in advanced cardiac life support, resuscitation, trauma care, such as fractures and soft tissue injuries, and management of other life-threatening situations.
