Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Arthur L. Raines Jr., who serves patients in Atlanta and Marietta, Georgia. 

Dr. Raines Jr. is a highly trained orthopaedic surgeon in practice with Resurgens Orthopaedics, operating out of the offices in Midtown (Atlanta) and Windy Hill (Marietta) in Georgia. His areas of expertise include arthroscopic & reconstructive surgery, total joint replacement, general orthopaedics, sports medicine, trauma and fracture care, and occupational injuries/ workers’ compensation. 

Among his hospital and medical center affiliations include Emory University Hospital – Midtown, Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center, and Northwest Georgia Orthopaedic Surgery Center. He is also a Clinical Instructor of the Annual Anatomy / Orthopaedic Surgery Sawbones Workshop at Morehouse School of Medicine.

A native of both Detroit, Michigan and Los Angeles, California, Dr. Raines attended the University of California, Irvine. From there, he went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, after which he performed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital.

As a testament to his success, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Raines Jr. is a member of the National Medical Association, the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, and the Georgia State Medical Association. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Heritage Fund of Atlanta Medical Association, and a current member of the Admissions Committee of the University of Michigan Medical School.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Named “Physician of the Year Award”  by the Atlanta Medical Association in 2014, Dr. Raines Jr. has been on orthopaedic surgery news segments on CNN Cable, Fox News, & local TV. He is also the author of orthopaedic surgery articles in several Atlanta medical journals and news publications.

Outside the office or the operating room, Dr. Raines Jr. is passionate about music (jazz & classical), collecting modern African-American art, attending college & pro football games, gourmet cooking, world traveling, and spending quality time with his two young-adult daughters.
