Martin Chin, DDS, a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, is redefining the landscape of facial reconstruction through his private practice at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. With a specialization in treating complex facial bone disorders, including congenital conditions like cleft palate, Dr. Chin has developed groundbreaking instruments and techniques that promise predictable outcomes in reconstructing missing or deficient facial skeletons.

With a distinguished career spanning decades, Dr. Chin has dedicated himself to improving surgical methods for patients with unique challenges related to facial bone deficiencies. His innovative approach includes the stimulation of patients’ own living bone growth, eliminating the need for grafting or synthetic materials—an important advancement for those requiring dental implants but lacking sufficient bone structure.

Dr. Chin earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry in 1978, followed by an internship and residency at UCSF Medical Center. As a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he has focused on pediatric reconstruction of complex craniofacial congenital disorders. His expertise has led to the creation of various surgical instruments and techniques that are now recognized for their effectiveness and safety.

In 2016, Dr. Chin published “Surgical Design for Dental Reconstruction with Implants: A New Paradigm,” which has contributed significantly to the field. His article, “Establishing and Maintaining Osseointegration Within the Functional Matrix,” published in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, further underscores his commitment to advancing surgical practices. Dr. Chin is also a sought-after lecturer, sharing his expertise internationally and reaching broader audiences through his YouTube channel.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Chin is the Founder and Director of the Beyond Faces Foundation, which supports the treatment of children with cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial disorders. His previous role on the craniofacial team at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital allowed him to contribute to the development of many advanced techniques in pediatric craniofacial reconstruction, where he still serves as an attending surgeon.

Dr. Chin actively participates in professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the American College of Dentists, ensuring he remains at the forefront of advancements in his field.
