A top pain management specialist, Dr. Shimkus is the Medical Director of Blossom Pain Management & Green Medical Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Blossom Pain management was created in response to an overwhelming need to provide people with chronic pain conditions with comprehensive multifaceted treatment. It offers services aimed exactly at preventing people from illegal opiate acquisition and from supplementing the estimated 26.4-36 million people abusing opioids worldwide. 

With a goal to improve a patient’s quality of life while decreasing their dependence on opiates, Dr. Shimkus practices comprehensive pain management and combines interventional techniques with appropriate medications, medical marijuana certificates, and physical therapy referrals. She also offers individualized pain management plans, non-surgical treatment regimens, nutritional therapy, lifestyle advice, and much more. 

Academically, she graduated with her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. She then went on to earn her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Virginia in 2006.

From July of 2000 until August of 2015, Dr. Shimkus served as a physician in the US Navy. Then, from 2017 until January of 2020, she served as a staff physician in addiction medicine at Right Path Treatment Centers (part-time).

Among her professional affiliations, she is a member of the American Pain Society and the American Academy of Pain Management.
