Dr. Mercado is an internal medicine physician who is currently serving patients at Su Clinica - a non-profit community health center that has served the residents of Cameron and Willacy counties since 1971. The Center provides care through clinics in Brownsville, Harlingen, Raymondville, and Santa Rosa. The mission of Su Clinica is to promote a healthier community by providing access to high value, comprehensive, and holistic healthcare services.

Dr. Mercado is currently licensed to practice medicine in Florida.

Dr. Mercado is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Certification by the ABIM has stood for the highest standard in internal medicine and its 20 subspecialties.

Dr. Mercado received her medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in 1992. Thereafter, she went on to complete her residency at VA Medical Center, followed by her fellowship training at San Juan City Hospital.

Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. As an internal medicine physician, Dr. Mercado deals with acute and chronic medical problems, as well as discusses issues of health maintenance, like cancer screenings, with patients. Patients with multiple problems and medications would typically be seen by an internal medicine physician.
