A former Director of Insurance Accounting with CitiBank, Dr. Botney held this position for six years prior to her medical practice. Upon an illness in her family, she felt a need and desire to help and do more than accountancy. She decided to change career paths to the medical field, graduating with her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 1984. She then went on to perform her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 1988.

Licensed to practice medicine in Missouri, Dr. Botney is affiliated with Mercy Hospital St. Louis, St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, and St. Louis Multispecialty Surgery Center. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG).

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health.
