Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Arif M. Muslim, who serves patients in New York.
Dr. Muslim is a dual board-certified gastroenterologist with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver diseases, and upper and lower GI endoscopy, including ERCP.
At Premier Medical Group, he specializes in almost all endoscopic procedures which he performs in the New Windsor facility and at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. He is also an expert in performing infrared coagulation for the treatment of hemorrhoids.
Educated in Pakistan, Dr. Muslim attended medical school at King Edward Medical College in 1968. He then relocated to the United States, completing his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Nassau County Medical Center in 1971 and 1973, respectively.
Board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Very active in community affairs, Dr. Muslim has served as president of the medical staff at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital as well as chairman of the GI sub division and chairman of medicine. He has also been a member of the Board of Trustees at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, and has served as president of the Orange County Medical Society.
Currently, he sits on the Board of Directors of Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center, chairs the Credentials and Pharmacy & Therapeutics committees at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, serves on the Advisory Board for the Pakistan Medical Research Council, and is on the Board of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital Foundation.
Before joining Premier Medical Group in 2005, Dr. Muslim was in solo practice for over 20 years.
In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, he is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association, the New York State Medical Society, and the Orange County Medical Society.
