Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Justin K. Spooner, who serves patients in Jacksonville, Florida.

A top pain management specialist, Dr. Spooner is the Owner and Lead Physician of Beaches Laser Spine & Pain. He practices evidence-based interventional procedures including pump and stimulator implants, peripheral blocks, kyphoplasty, minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD), and regional anesthesia in combination with psychiatry, medication management, as well as complementary and alternative medicine.

By offering the greatest number of evidence-based minimally invasive procedures to not only relieve, but actually fix the underlying causes of pain, Dr. Spooner is able to maximize patients’ long-term pain relief and quality of life. He is the only doctor in the country with his advanced residency and fellowship training in interventional spine and pain medicine, adult psychiatry and neurology, and child and adolescent psychiatry and neurology, allowing him to most accurately diagnose and treat both the physical and psychological experience of pain in adults and children.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Spooner is also a practicing child psychiatrist at Beaches Behavioral Medicine and Daniel Kids, which assists over 2000 children throughout the state of Florida annually with adoption, housing, residential and outpatient psychiatric needs. 

In the past, he has been affiliated with Jacksonville Beach Medical Center, Integrated Surgical, Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, and Indiana University Health.

Academically, Dr. Spooner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Rochester. He started his career in medicine by earning his medical degree from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He completed his internship and residency in psychiatry at Tulane University, followed by a fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University. He then went on to complete additional fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry & interventional spine and pain medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and child & adolescent psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Furthermore, he is board-certified through the American Board of Preventive Medicine, the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and the American Board of Pain Medicine.

On a professional level, Dr. Spooner is a proud member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Spine Intervention Society, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the American Psychiatric Association.
