Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Rita Grogan, who serves patients in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

A Cornell trained psychiatrist, Dr. Grogan is in private practice in Ridgewood, New Jersey. With over three decades of experience treating adults, she has expertise in psychotherapy and psychiatric medication treatment. 

“My emphasis is on establishing a safe, empathetic relationship where you can express your thoughts, feelings and memories in a nonjudgmental environment. My goal is helping you develop a richer emotional life by exploring current relationships as well as past experiences that may prevent you from reaching your full potential” expressed Dr. Grogan. 

Her acclaimed career in medicine began after she graduated with her medical degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1988. She then performed her internship at the University of Chicago in 1989, followed by her residency in psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell Campus)/Westchester in 1994.

Board-certified in psychiatry, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Throughout her extensive career, Dr. Grogan has served as a team leader on focused units for Division Human Services for the state of New Jersey. She was also a clinical instructor of third year medical students at Rutgers Medical School.

Continuously advancing her efforts, she is an active member of the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
