Dr. Husain is a laryngologist, also known as a throat surgeon, who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of voice disorders, swallowing disorders, and upper airway disorders. 

Currently, she is one of several doctors with the Community Healthcare System, serving as Medical Director of Laryngology at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. She is also affiliated with Community Stroke and Rehabilitation Center (Crown Point, Indiana) and St. Catherine Hospital (East Chicago, Indiana). 

Growing up, Dr. Husain always knew that becoming a doctor was possible. Through determination and perseverance she made that dream a reality. 

In 2009, she graduated with her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She then went on to perform her residencies in otolaryngology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2011 and 2014, respectively. Finally, she completed her fellowship in laryngology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School from 2014 until 2015.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in otolaryngology through the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. It is a non-profit organization with the mission of ensuring professional standards in this field since 1924.

Having always loved teaching, Dr. Husain spent the first 7 years of her career in academic medicine being an Associate Professor and Section Head of Laryngology. It was through her role as Associate Residency Program Director that she gained further training in medical education. 

She now applies this to social media where she has an active presence on Instagram and TikTok , helping to educate and advocate for patients with otolaryngology and throat disorders. 

“Choosing to be true to, and betting on, myself has helped me become an expert in my field beyond the clinic room” expressed Dr. Husain.

Staying up to date in her field, she is an active member of the American Laryngological Association and the Chicago Laryngological & Otological Society. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

Laryngology is a branch of medicine that deals with disorders, diseases and injuries of the larynx, colloquially known as the voice box. Laryngologists treat disorders of the larynx, including diseases that affect the voice, swallowing, or upper airway.

Throughout her line of work, Dr. Husain has published over 20 papers, 9 op-eds, numerous press mentions, and has given national/international talks related to her area of expertise.
