How do people deal with clogged pores?
The best way to manage pores is to keep them from overfilling which is what can lead to acne. Topical prescription medications such as tretinoin is helpful along with OTC options such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and glycolic acid. Occasional use of pore strips can also help to clear out the pores. Most important to realize is that there is no way to get rid of a pore. Just maintain it well to prevent overflow. READ MORE

Do juvederm fillers get broken down faster if I workout?
Metabolic rate definitely affects breakdown of fillers. While it is great that you are staying healthy and working out, unfortunately the downside is that your healthy body is more efficient at breaking down the fillers. Over time, your body will replace fillers with collagen. So while you may need closer visits early on, you may find the product and the results will last longer after subsequent treatments. READ MORE
Can tanning cause any skin concerns?
Tanning causes a number of health issues. Tanning is due to UV light that is produced by the sun. UV light causes damage to the skin, which can lead to wrinkles, brown spots, thin skin, and skin cancer. Sun damaged skin will tear easily and bruise easily as well. I recommend you wear sunscreen on your face every day, even in the winter, of a SPF 30 or higher. On the body, apply sunscreen before you get dressed every morning to give you protection even on days you don’t expect to be outside. READ MORE
Can laser hair removal treatment cause any major side effects?
Laser hair removal is a great option for hair removal. Some things to consider before getting laser hair removal are that several treatments spaced 6 weeks apart are required to get results. In addition, laser hair removal is not permanent. After a series of treatments, you will have a greatly reduced number of hairs (maybe even none!), but over time, the hairs will start to grow in. If laser hair removal is not done correctly, you can have unwanted side effects. These include burning or blistering of the skin, depigmentation or white spots, and increased hair growth. For best results, see a physician trained in laser procedures and have the procedure done in the fall or winter and when your skin is not tanned. READ MORE
My mother in law has extremely dark and dry skin around her foot. Is there a way to treat this?
I would recommend applying a thick ointment such as Vaseline or Aquaphor to the skin and cover with a sock at night to improve the cracks and dryness. The pigment could be from the edema which causes blood cells to get pushed into the skin. This type of pigment is difficult to reverse, unfortunately. Wearing compression socks can help to stop the pigmentation from getting worse by controlling the edema. Caroline A. Chang, MD, FAAD READ MORE
