Inseminella, the princess Disney didn't make a movie about
Growing up in America, as a young girl you look through all of the Disney princesses. A fascinating array of images are splayed from the TV or movie (now it also includes iPads and smartphone screens) of wonderful stories of princesses and love and happily ever after. Your mother may have helped a...
Stopped period regular
Well, The answer is unfortunately maybe but probably not... With your history of cycles being irregular chances are low that you could have conceived but unfortunately it is possible. I would recommend waiting for another few days and repeating the pregnancy test. Vasili T Goudas MD READ MORE
Pregnancy, iron deficiency, or something else?
Hi there, I read all the information you put in and want to tell you that you are likely not pregnant. What you are describing sounds to me like there was an ovulation failure or "misfire" if you will. Sometimes we use the term LUF (Luteinized unruptured follicle), or ovulatory dysfunction. but it does happen in about 5% of cycles that the cycle does not progress well and you get symptoms like yours, where the period was not exactly right, or the flow was different or some such event. That in my mind is the most likely explanation for what you are describing. Other things that can explain or fit with your story exist, and the best think to do would be to wait and see if by next period all your symptoms have not disappeared (I expect they will). If not, the best thing to do would be to take the small risk (all doctor's offices nowadays use a lot of protective gear and are relatively safe from COVID) and get properly evaluated. Vasilios T. Is it necessary to drink milk during pregnancy?
That is an interesting question. During pregnancy a significant amount of calcium is required for the growing fetus. That means that the mother's calcium stores, i.e., her bones, are "raided" by the pregnancy. Thus the mother needs to constantly replenish them, and milk, cheeses, yogurt, and other dairy products are great sources of calcium. If you are unable to deal with milk, you may want to look into alternative sources or calcium tablets. I hope this helps. Vasilios T. Goudas, MD READ MORE
Is it normal for periods to be irregular after a miscarriage?
That is a very interesting question. =20 The short answer is that following an event such as a miscarriage, menstrual cycles should AT SOME POINT return to their usual pattern. Having said that, there are a few things you should be aware of: 1. Menstrual cyclicity can be affected short term (usually less that 3 months) by pregnancy or pregnancy related hormonal changes. 2. Autoimmune thyroid disease can be "triggered" so to speak from a pregnancy event and cause irregular cycles. 3. A hormone called Prolactin can be abnormally elevated during pregnancy and take longer to return to normal, thus causing irregular cycles. 4. Following a miscarriage, the uterine lining can on occasion become inflamed and cause scar tissue that will prevent periods. With the above in mind, my recommendation is that after waiting for a few weeks following a miscarriage you may want to be evaluated for the above. I hope this answers your question. Can I get pregnant if I ovulate late?
The answer to this question is absolutely yes. Both natural cycle data and the experience gained by artificial cycles for frozen embryo transfer in our and other centers have proven that the duration of the cycle prior to ovulation is by itself not important. HOWEVER, you probably want to be sure that what you perceive as ovulating late is indeed that and not some form of ovulatory dysfunction. Vasilios T. Goudas, MD FACOG READ MORE
Can you get pregnant 5 days after your period?
Yes. Surprising as it sounds, it is quite possible to conceive with intercourse at any time during the month. The explanation is that on occasion, especially if a woman's period is not always on time, it is possible for an egg "follicle" to be already getting ready for release "ovulation" much earlier that usual. Is an ovulation calculator accurate?
Some ovulation calculator apps are better than others and can assist in family planning. The bigger problem with them is that they still rely on a fairly regular cycle profile, so if your period is somewhat irregular, they can be wrong. Best advice, after you try for a little bit, if you see no good results, seek assistance from your gynecologist. Vasili T. Goudas, MD READ MORE
Does pregnancy cause constipation?
Unfortunately yes, pregnancy is associated with constipation, sometimes pretty severe. There are a number of mechanisms involved, the most important one the effect of Progesterone, the main pregnancy hormone that decreases bowel motility ("peristalsis"). Additionally, as pregnancy progresses the woman's mobility is also decreased due to the abdominal size, further exacerbating the problem. That is why we always advise our patients to increase both their water as well as their fiber intake, trying to maintain normal bowel motility. Congratulations and best of luck with your pregnancy.
