Upon graduating with his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in 1973, Dr. Walker Jr. went on to perform his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Rush University Medical Center. This was followed by a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan.

Currently licensed to practice medicine in Florida, New York, and Illinois, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada. 

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
