Get to know Intensivist & Neurocritical Care Physician Dr. Christopher Burdick, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Burdick is a board-certified intensivist & neurocritical care physician. He is the Medical Director of Neurocritical Care at Texas IPS – Intensivist, Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine in San Antonio, Texas.

Earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in New York, Dr. Burdick went on to earn his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in Mexico & New York Medical College – Fifth Pathway Program.

Furthering his training, he performed his residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Connecticut. He then completed an additional residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in critical care medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport. 

Board-certified in internal medicine and neurocritical care, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, Dr. Burdick is affiliated with Methodist Hospital, Baptist Medical Center, St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital, and Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant.

Intensive care medicine, also called critical care medicine, is a medical specialty that deals with seriously or critically ill patients who have, are at risk of, or are recovering from conditions that may be life-threatening. An intensivist, also known as a critical care doctor, is a medical practitioner who specializes in the care of critically ill patients, most often in the intensive care unit.

Neurocritical care medicine focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening diseases of the nervous system, including brain and spinal cord trauma, cerebral edema, ruptured aneurysms, severe strokes, encephalitis and meningitis, refractory seizures, and complicated brain tumors. A neurocritical care physician, or neurointensivist, treats patients with neurological disorders or traumatic brain injuries.
