Get to know Speech-Language Pathologist Mrs. Crystal Saenz, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Saenz is a speech-language pathologist, as well as, the Clinical Supervisor for Stepping Stones Pediatric Feeding and Speech Therapy Clinic in San Antonio, Texas. Stepping Stones Pediatric Feeding and Speech Therapy Clinic is a rehabilitation facility which specializes in children facing feeding/swallowing challenges, as well as speech & language difficulties. “Our feeding, speech, and language services are tailored to a wide variety of issues such as cerebral palsy, Treacher Collins syndrome, trisomy, RET, autism, and other developmental delays. Our multifaceted and interdisciplinary staff is always upgrading and updating their methods to meet the diversity of our patients” as stated on the practice’s website. Stepping Stones is the only specialized pediatric feeding and dysphagia clinic in San Antonio, Texas.  

Mrs. Saenz is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, a professional association for speech–language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists in the United States and internationally. Mrs. Saenz has been a speech-language pathologist since 2012, and has dedicated her career to pediatric dysphagia and the training of new clinicians.  

Mrs. Saenz attributes her success to having always wanted to work with children. She spoke with a family friend who is a speech therapist to get information about the field and after doing so, she knew that speech-language pathology was the best profession for her to pursue. Mrs. Saenz also attributes her success to Dr. Yadira Medina, speech-language pathologist (ClinSciD/SLPD) and owner of Stepping Stones Clinic, who has been an amazing mentor to her. Her guidance, support, and encouragement have helped Mrs. Saenz to excel at her profession. In her spare time, Mrs. Saenz enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and going to the beach. 

Speech-language pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) or a speech therapist. SLPs, like Mrs. Saenz, treat and diagnose speaking disabilities. They help patients with articulation, stuttering, fluency, the rhythm of speech, and more. Additionally, they may treat patients who have difficulty with language and swallowing. Patients see SLPs for a variety of reasons, including relearning language after an accident, overcoming a voice disorder, enhancing social communication skills, as well as improving speaking clarity.
