Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Dode N. Washington, who serves patients in Conway, South Carolina.

Recognized as a caring and compassionate obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Washington specializes in women’s health, particularly the female reproductive system, pregnancy, and childbirth. She sees patients at Coastal Carolina OBGYN in Conway, South Carolina, which she co-founded in early 2004 alongside Dr. Barbara Bozeman, MD.

Coastal Carolina OBGYN specializes in prenatal counseling and care over the entire course of a woman’s pregnancy. Focusing on the health of women of all ages and specializing in OBGYN services, the practice concentrates on normal and high-risk pregnancy, gynecological surgery, laparoscopic surgery, family planning/counseling, and menopause. The mission of Coastal Carolina OBGYN is “ to deliver the highest quality obstetrical and gynecological care in a compassionate and caring environment.”

In her current capacity, Dr. Washington can also be found on staff at Conway Medical Center, a non-profit medical center which has 210 inpatient beds and is a trusted leader in healthcare. Located in Conway, it is one of the county’s largest employers with over 1,500 staff members, having been serving the medical needs of Horry County and surrounding communities for nearly a century. The Center offers services such as general and vascular surgery, joint replacement surgery, spine surgery, medical care to include critical care, telemetry, inpatient dialysis, palliative care, obstetrics, pediatrics, and women’s services.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Washington graduated cum laude from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and earned her medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1992. She completed her internship in general surgery at Boston University Medical Center, followed by her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City.

The doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), as well as a member of the American Medical Association and the South Carolina Medical Association.

Embracing a holistic approach to healthcare, Dr. Washington has expanded her practice to include acupuncture. She completed 300 hours of acupuncture training by Dr. Tsun-Nin Lee at the Academy of Pain Institute in San Francisco. She is also certified to offer bioidentical testosterone and estrogen hormone pellet therapy. 

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health. 

A native of Copenhagen, Dr. Washington is bilingual in Danish and English and has knowledge of French, German, Swedish, and Norwegian. She loves to travel the world and try new cuisines. She is a past competitor with the Horry County Dancing with the Stars.
