Robert A. Hart, MD, MA, MHCDS, officially retired from clinical practice and his role as the Medical Director of Spinal Deformity at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington, in September of 2023, marking the end of an illustrious career in orthopedic surgery and medical education.
A graduate of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Hart earned his Medical Degree in 1992. He further honed his skills during his orthopedic residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1992 to 1997, followed by a specialized spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University - University Hospitals in 1998. In 2018, he completed his Master of Health Care Delivery Science at Dartmouth/Tuck, demonstrating his commitment to improving healthcare systems and patient outcomes.
Dr. Hart joined the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in 2016 after an esteemed 18-year tenure at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where he achieved the rank of Tenured Professor of Orthopedics. During his time at OHSU, he also served as the Residency and Spine Fellowship Program Director, shaping the careers of countless orthopedic surgeons and fostering a commitment to excellence in patient care.
Throughout his 25-year-long career, Dr. Hart has been recognized as a leader in orthopedic and spine surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, and the Scoliosis Research Society. Notably, he serves on the Executive Committee of the International Spine Study Group, contributing to groundbreaking research and clinical practice in spinal deformity.
