His commitment to education is evident in his position as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas Medical School, where he has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of psychiatrists since 1989.

Dr. Lesem’s academic journey began at the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1976. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston in 1981. His medical training included an internship at St. Paul’s Hospital in Dallas and a psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Medical School, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Lesem further honed his expertise through a prestigious research fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

As a board-certified psychiatrist in both general and geriatric psychiatry, Dr. Lesem is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the Harris County Medical Society, the Houston Academy of Medicine, the Houston Methodist Physician’s Alliance for Quality, and the Texas Medical Association. His dedication to the field is evident in his ongoing efforts to improve mental health care in the Houston community.
