Get to know Family Physician Dr. Mark D. Schneider, who serves patients in Downey, California.

Holding over four decades of experience, Dr. Schneider is a top-rated osteopathic family physician in California. He serves as the Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at PIH Health – Downey Hospital.

“I wanted to blend my interest in science with taking care of people, and I had several role models that influenced me, including my father and uncle. Both my identical twin brother and cousin became physicians also” expressed the doctor.

Striving to make a difference in people’s lives, he enjoys the continuity and trust he develops with his patients over the years, especially in becoming the family physician for generations of the same family.

Back in 1976, Dr. Schneider graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from AT Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in family medicine at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

A Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP), he is board-certified in family medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP). The AOBFP is an organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians who specialize in delivering comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, genders, and addressing all parts of the body.

For more than 10 years, Dr. Schneider has served as a California delegate to the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Among Dr. Schneider’s various accolades include Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014) and Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2014).

When he is not working, he enjoys playing baseball and tennis, sailing, staying in shape, and spending quality time with his family. He is happily married and has one daughter.
