Born and raised in Pecos, Texas, he graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Before attending medical school, he joined the United States Army, serving three years as an Artillery Officer with the 101st Airborne Division. Thereafter, he earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston before returning to Lubbock to complete his residency in obstetrics and gynecology.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
In addition to his busy medical practice, Dr. Burkholder also serves as the Medical Director of the Parkridge Pregnancy Center in Lubbock, which started more than 20 years ago as a crisis pregnancy center. The center’s budget comes from donations, and the services are free.
