Dr. Shilpi Pradhan is an board-certified ophthalmologist practicing in Glen Allen, VA. Dr. Pradhan specializes in dry eye disease, corneal disease, cataract surgery as well as general eye and vision care including diabetic eye exams, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Dr. Pradhan specializes in Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment for dry eye disease as well as Lipiflow, BlephEx, and other treatments for dry eye disease including autologous serum drops. Dr. Pradhan is also board-certified in LifeStyle Medicine as of 2020 and has completed Dr. T. Colin Campbell's Plant-based nutrition certification from Cornell University as of 2019 and is passionate about using food as medicine.
As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Pradhan can practice medicine as well as surgery. Ophthalmologists can perform surgeries because they have their medical degrees along with at least eight years of additional training. Dr. Pradhan can diagnose and treat diseases, perform eye operations and prescribe eye glasses and contacts. She attended Emory University, Atlanta, GA for college from 1996-2000 where she also studied abroad at Lancaster University for a semester during her junior year. After completing her medical school at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO in 2004, Dr. Pradhan completed her transitional internship including internal medicine and pediatrics at the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA from 2004-2005, her Ophthalmology residency from 2005-2008 at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University and Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA) and her Cornea Fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA from 2008-2009.
She has owned her own practice, Eye Doctor MD PC since 2015 and served the greater Richmond, VA area with dedication and compassion. She has also supported the local food bank annually, believing in giving back to the community on a continuous basis. She was recently nominated to receive the Medarva Patient Choice Award in 2021 and be included in the Women in Medicine book for 2021. She lives in Glen Allen, VA with her husband, Dr. Kumar Abhishek, who is a board-certified hematologist/oncologist as well as their children. They also have an endowed scholarship at her alma mater honoring their Twin Angels who were born too soon at 20 weeks in 2009 and did not survive. This is distributed on an annual basis to a medical student at Washington University in St. Louis.
