Get to know Rheumatologist Dr. Ryan S. Weldon, who serves patients in Birmingham, Alabama.

Well versed in the field of rheumatology, Dr. Weldon has been a part of the team of professionals at Rheumatology Associates, P.C. in Birmingham, Alabama since August of 2017. 

He enjoys treating all rheumatic diseases but has a particular interest in inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthritis, and gout. He also has a special interest in systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis, and remains affiliated with Ascension Alabama St. Vincent’s Birmingham.

Graduating with his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Dr. Weldon went on to complete his internship, residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in rheumatology at the Medical University of South Carolina.

As a testament of his success, the doctor is board-certified in rheumatology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases and osteoporosis. 

Among Dr. Weldon’s various accolades include Golden Apple Teaching Award Nomination 2012 & 2013, Teacher of the Year Award Nomination 2013, Excellence in Internal Medicine Clerkship 2012, and Chandler Foundation Scholarship 2010-2011.
