Get to know Vascular Surgeon Dr. Alain Tanbe, who serves patients in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Tanbe is a respected, fellowship-trained vascular surgeon whose areas of interests include minimally invasive management of critical limb ischemia, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, and venous disease. He works at The Vascular Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

There, he treats disorders of the arteries and veins & offers comprehensive care for a broad range of vascular diseases, including peripheral artery disease, carotid artery disease, vascular blockages, diabetic vascular conditions, and varicose veins.

A 2008 graduate of the University of Aleppo, Faculty of Medicine in Syria, Dr. Tanbe relocated to the United States to further his training. Once there, he performed his residencies at Maine Medical Center and Tufts Medical Center. He completed his postdoctoral research fellowship at  Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by his fellowship in critical care at West Roxbury VA Medical Center and Boston Medical Center. He also completed an additional fellowship in vascular surgery at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center/ Northwell Health System.

An expert in vascular health & vein disease, the doctor is board-certified vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Committed to providing exceptional care to his patients, Dr. Tanbe is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), which places him among a group of distinguished experts in vascular ultrasound interpretation. As an RPVI, he evaluates the circulatory system and identifies blockages in the arteries and veins, and also detects blood clots. 

To advance his professional efforts, he remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Eastern Vascular Society, and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.

Recognized as a presenter and published author on vascular disease, Dr. Tanbe has given many presentations on a variety of vascular topics. He is a published author with articles that have appeared in several professional journals, including the Journal of Vascular Surgery.

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.

An advocate for helping people in underserved populations, Dr. Tanbe helps them to learn about good health practices, hygiene, and disease prevention. He has participated in a medical productive camp at Aleppo University School of Medicine in Aleppo, Syria. He has also volunteered in the Emergency Department and Surgery Department at St. Louise Hospital in Aleppo.
