Among her many roles, she is a Professor of the Department of Neurology at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, Director of the USF Ataxia Research Center, Director of The Frances J. Zesiewicz Center and Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease, and Director of the James A. Haley Veterans’ Administration Parkinson’s Disease Clinic. At the USF Ataxia Research Center, Dr. Zesiewicz is committed to providing specialized medical care for those people afflicted with cerebellar ataxia while performing basic science and clinical research in ataxia. The team of medical experts provides specialized patient evaluations and treatment for this uncommon disorder. At the USF Parkinson’s Disease and Balance Center, Dr. Zesiewicz and a team of clinical coordinators and neuroepidemiologists provide specialized care for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. Emphasis is placed on accurate diagnosis and state of the art therapy for Parkinson’s disease. Other parkinsonisms and balance disorders followed at the clinic include atypical parkinsonisms such as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Multiple System Atrophy. They also work extensively with other movement disorders, including essential tremor, ataxia, and dystonia. A 1988 graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Dr. Zesiewicz went on to perform her residency in neurology at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn from 1989 until 1992. Since 1998, he has been serving as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology. Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS), Dr. Zesiewicz is also an active member of the Movement Disorders Society, the American Medical Association, and the Parkinson’s Study Group. His research interests include Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, Spinocerebellar ataxia, and Friedreich’s Ataxia. Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients.
