Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Mani Mahdavian, who serves patients in Des Plaines, Illinois.

In practice since 1998, Dr. Mahdavian is a renowned gastroenterologist whose goal is providing patient friendly medical care, with an individualized approach. As a Managing Partner at  Lakeshore Gastroenterology & Liver Disease Institute, he has clinical expertise in endoscopic ultrasound and pancreatic biliary disease and advanced GI procedures.

In addition to caring for patients in his practice, Dr. Mahdavian currently serves as the Chairman of the Board at Des Plaines Endoscopy Center. Under his leadership, a multidisciplinary team of specialists in gastroenterology and surgery provide comprehensive care for patients. He also serves as a Faculty Member at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, providing training and education for residency and fellows.

His other hospital affiliations include AMITA Health Holy Family Medical Center Des Plaines, AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center Chicago, Northwest Community Hospital, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America Chicago.

In Iran, Dr. Mahdavian graduated with his medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 1992. He then relocated to the United States, performing his internship and residency at Edgewater Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident. 

After completing his fellowship in gastroenterology at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, he was a researcher and extensive lecturer in a variety of gastroenterology topics at Chicago Medical School and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

In his role with several gastrointestinal professional societies, Dr. Mahdavian is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Medical Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

With a focus on the health of the digestive tract, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Throughout his line of work, Dr. Mahdavian has been a co-author in a variety of publications and abstracts, including the American Journal of Gastroenterology. 

Outside of the office, he spends his leisure time with his family, skiing, hiking, playing soccer, reading, and spending time with his two children. He speaks English, German, and Farsi.
