Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Clare A. Hochreiter, who serves patients in New York, New York.

Dr. Hochreiter, a board-certified cardiologist, practices within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, New York.

Among her various academic and clinical appointments, Dr. Hochreiter also serves as an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, and as an Associate Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester in 1972, she pursued her medical education at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital before going to Weill Cornell Medicine for her fellowship in cardiology. 

“There are many reasons I feel fortunate to have been able to continue at Weill Cornell. It has given me the opportunity to interact with an exceptional group of physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses in both cardiology and cardiac surgery in a hospital which is equally well-staffed in all other specialties. It has allowed me to do research in the area of regurgitant heart valve disease and to teach at many levels. Most of all, it has made it possible for me to be part of a team capable of the highest level of care for any patient with cardiac disease.” as stated by Dr. Hochreiter. 

Alongside being a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. She is also board-certified in nuclear cardiology by the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels.
