Since joining the University of Florida in 1999, Dr. Urdaneta has established himself as a leading academic anesthesiologist, working diligently at UF Health and the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. His clinical focus is primarily in the cardiothoracic area, where he provides anesthesia care for adult patients and some pediatric cardiac cases, with a strong emphasis on perioperative echocardiography. Dr. Urdaneta’s expertise in this specialized field is vital, as echocardiography plays a crucial role in assessing cardiac function before, during, and after surgery.

His medical journey began in Bogota, Colombia, where Dr. Urdaneta earned his Medical Degree from Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario Facultad de Medicina. He then completed an internship at Fundacion Santa Fe de Bogota and a fellowship at the Hepatobiliary Disease Institute. His path led him to the United States, where he completed an anesthesiology residency and a cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at the University of Florida. In 2005, Dr. Urdaneta took a brief foray into private practice, opening the perioperative echocardiography service at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Recognizing his true calling, Dr. Urdaneta returned to UF in 2006, where he has since dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of anesthesiologists.
