Get to know Chiropractor Dr. Michael L. Coon, who serves patients in South Carolina.

Dr. Coon, a dedicated chiropractor, is the Owner of Alpha Care Family Medical Center. To better serve families and people in need of medical services, he operates out of two offices in Charleston and one in Summerville, South Carolina.

When he initially opened Alpha Care, he wanted to provide conservative treatment for pain that he believed could serve as an alternative to surgery. His idea for this type of practice was derived from his medical experience as a Navy Corpsman in the Charleston, South Carolina Navy Hospital. This experience prompted him to become a chiropractic physician and drove him to open a practice that would employ both medical physicians and chiropractors to provide more efficient treatment for common medical problems.

After serving as a Navy Corpsman from 1974-1978 in Charleston, Dr. Coon graduated second in his class from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1980 as a respiratory therapist. He then attended Life Chiropractic College and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983. A year later, In 1984, he opened his first facility on James Island. Since then, Alpha Care has expanded to include locations in North Charleston, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain, back pain, headaches, vertigo and a long list of other ailments and conditions. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of medication or surgery.
