Known as Austin’s Spine Specialist, Dr. Moghimi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who performs both operative and non-operative spinal treatments. He offers care for several conditions involving cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disease.
Restoring quality of life, he treats spinal patients as part of the Orthopaedic Specialists of Austin alongside skilled, dedicated leaders in orthopedic medicine. He is one of the few surgeons in Austin who specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS), an advanced alternative to open spine surgery.
“I believe in a comprehensive approach to spine care, which includes both nonoperative and operative treatments. Surgery should always be a last resort, but when necessary, I strive to provide the best care using the newest and most innovative technologies available including minimally invasive spine surgery” expressed Dr. Moghimi.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he quickly found his way to Texas. He was raised in the suburbs of Dallas and then attended Southern Methodist University for college. There, Dr. Moghimi earned his bachelor’s degree in both chemistry and biology, all while graduating with honors. He then attended the University of Texas Medical School in Houston where he graduated with the highest honor given to medical students in the nation, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).
Furthering his training, he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine where he received numerous awards, including top junior resident, top senior resident, highest in training exam score, and national awards including the American Orthopedic Association Top Resident Award. Dr. Moghimi concluded his training with a fellowship in spinal surgery at Harvard (Massachusetts General Hospital & Brigham and Women’s Hospital) under the mentorship of Christopher Bono and Kirkham Wood.
As a member of the esteemed North American Spine Society, Dr. Moghimi is constantly studying and adopting the latest developments and technology in the field. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Moghimi has had his work published in several books, has presented at national and international medical conventions, and has conducted peer-reviewed multiple works in medical journals.
