  • How do you make wisdom teeth pain go away?

You need to go to your dentist and you may need an antibiotic and then you need to have it extracted. READ MORE

  • Is it normal to have bad breath after a tooth extraction?

Yes, it is. Your breath will return to normal after the socket has healed. READ MORE

  • Is getting a dental bridge painful?

You should be numbed up for the procedure and be comfortable while the dentist is working. You may have some soreness afterward and need some tylenol or ibuprofen. READ MORE

  • How long does a toothache last without treatment?

There is no good answer to this question. Tooth decay cannot treat itself. If you have a toothache, the only way to get rid of it is to diagnose it and treat it or extract it. Tooth pain can come and go, but it will almost always come back and most likely get worse. READ MORE

  • Do all fillings need injections?

It depends on the situation. Most fillings will require an injection to be virtually painfree. READ MORE

  • Can capped teeth be whitened?

The only way to whiten teeth with crowns, is to replace them with new ones. READ MORE

  • Should I be able to floss under my implant?

That depends on what you mean. No, the floss should not be able to go completely under a crown supported by an implant. However, if you have a bridge that is implant supported, you may be able to. You should go see your dentist so they can teach you the proper flossing technique for your implant situation. READ MORE

  • Can I put rubber bands on my teeth?

    No, absolutely not. READ MORE

  • Can a bottom tooth make a top tooth hurt?

Yes, sort of. If a lower tooth is infected, it can make the upper tooth seem to hurt (referred pain). If a lower tooth is hitting the upper tooth in an abnormal way, that can also make the upper tooth hurt. READ MORE

  • Can you wear Invisalign with dental implants?

Invisalign can be used to move your other teeth, but the implants cannot move. READ MORE

  • Can you get a mouth cyst removed at this time?

Many oral surgeons are still open. Most offices in my area will be open next week. Restrictions in most states have been lifted for elective care. READ MORE

  • Can a tooth be filled if the nerve is exposed?

That depends on what you mean. Do you mean you have a chip and it hurts to cold, touch and air? Or did your dentist tell you that the nerve is exposed? Some small nerve exposures can have a thin layer of special theracal type product placed and then a filling. Most times, a nerve exposure, especially because of decay, would need a root canal. READ MORE

  • What happens if I don't go for my root canal?

Depending on why you need root canal treatment, delaying treatment can increase the risk of extreme pain and infection. Usually, the only other option other than a root canal is extraction. READ MORE

  • Is surgery a treatment for TMJ?

Typically, surgery is the last resort for TMJ problems. Splint therapy, physical therapy, orthodontics, and/or full mouth reconstruction are usually attempted before surgery is considered. In 30 years of practice, I have never referred any patient for TMJ surgery. I would see a TMJ specialist and even get two or three opinions before considering surgery. READ MORE

  • How can I stop my child from thumbsucking?

Positive reinforcement is the best at this age. The more often you tell her to quit, you are actually reinforcing the behavior. My son was also a thumb sucker. We tried not to make a big deal about it. As he got older, we told him he could only suck his thumb in bed. His grandparents made a big deal about the thumb sucking one weekend, and after that he was sucking 24/7. We waited until he was 7 and he was getting some peer pressure to stop when we had the orthodontist place a device that inhibits the ability to create suction. Psychologically, 4 years old is far too young for this treatment. She will develop some orthodontic problems from sucking her thumb past 4 years old, but early orthodontic intervention (around age 7) should be able to counteract the problems. READ MORE

  • I never grew out of my buck teeth. What should I do?

Of course! Go see an orthodontist. You are almost never too old to get braces and you will be happy that you did. READ MORE
