Educated in India, Dr. Khan graduated with his medical degree from Gandhi Medical College, Osmania University in 1974. He then completed two internships, one at Galmi Hospital and the other at Western Missouri Mental Health Center. He also finished two residencies, one at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the other at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital..

Specializing in the medical treatment of adults, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists.
