Dr. Werthman first pioneered, then perfected a new technique for vasectomy reversal (the mini-incision microsurgical vasectomy reversal or vasoepididymostomy), one which permits a male fertility surgeon to relieve extraneous blockage through microsurgery. This technique has allowed him to achieve a 98% success rate for his vasectomy reversals. In fact, many of the urologists and male fertility doctors who perform microsurgical vasectomy reversals today use the techniques that were developed and perfected by Dr. Werthman.

Dr. Werthman was the first male infertility specialist to use local anesthesia in an office setting to perform microsurgical epididymal sperm aspirations, a procedure in which viable sperm are obtained from men who have a blockage in their reproductive tract.

Dr. Werthman is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Diplomate of the American Board of Urology. He is also a past president of the Los Angeles Urologic Society and a former Chief of Urology at Century City Hospital. In addition to his “Patient’s Choice” and “Most Compassionate Doctor” awards, Dr. Werthman has received many accolades from medical associations and peer-review boards, including a perennial listing on “America’s Top Physicians,” and the American Fertility Association’s “Illuminations Award” - a coveted honor bestowed upon only the most outstanding fertility doctors in the nation.
