Three Decades of Specialized Care for Critically Ill Surgical Patients

Francis J. Amèdé, MD, is a distinguished Critical Care Consultant and trained Nephrologist with over 23 years of experience managing critically ill patients. He began his career in New York, New York, moved to Houston, Texas in 2005, and now practices in the Valley (McAllen and Edinburg), South Texas. With a strong interest in the complex physiological responses of critically ill patients, Dr. Amèdé is recognized for his exceptional expertise in treating life-threatening conditions, including infections and their complications, acute renal diseases, post-operative patients, and associated complications, to name a few.

Dr. Amèdé earned his Medical Degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada in 1991. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Seton Hall University Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey (1994-1997). He further specialized with fellowships in Nephrology and Critical Care Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York (1997-1999), and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York (2000-2001), respectively. This rigorous training has equipped him to navigate the complexities of critically ill patients and understand how acute health crises intersect with pre-existing medical conditions.

As a Critical Care Consultant, Dr. Amèdé employs a holistic approach to patient care, expertly restoring organ function amidst the physiological chaos of acute, life-threatening illnesses. He holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Critical Care Medicine through the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS), demonstrating his commitment to maintaining the highest medical education and patient care standards.

Dr. Amèdé is licensed to practice in multiple states, including Florida, Texas, California, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, and North Carolina. He is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center, Longview Regional Medical Center, and the South Texas Healthcare System. His dedication extends beyond clinical practice; he is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Amèdé also contributes to medical education as a Visiting Professor at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada. He served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai, New York (2001-2005) and at Cornell-Weill during his time at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas (2005-2008). With extensive experience in lecturing, public speaking, and teaching on local, national, and international platforms, Dr. Amèdé has inspired many through his expertise.

In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Amèdé is dedicated to global health through his missionary work, including medical outreach efforts in South Africa and Grenada. His commitment to serving underprivileged communities highlights his compassion and dedication to making a positive impact beyond his clinical duties.

Although no longer actively practicing as a Nephrologist, Dr. Amèdé’s nephrology training enriches his ability to manage critically ill patients who often face kidney injury and require renal replacement therapies. He remains focused on improving patient outcomes through meticulous attention to detail and innovative treatment strategies, driven by his passion for medicine and dedication to making a difference in the lives of his patients.

Dr. Amèdé plans to work closely with the Grenada medical community to enhance healthcare offerings in Grenada and the broader Caribbean region. Known for his inspiring leadership and dedication to advancing critical care, Dr. Amèdé continues to be a prominent figure in his field.
