Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Sean L. Francis, who serves patients in Louisville, Kentucky.

Recognized as a well-known gynecologist, Dr. Francis is a distinguished figure in the field of urogynecology, specializing in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, with a profound dedication to women’s health. With a focus on addressing issues such as incontinence, prolapse, and urodynamics, he brings a wealth of expertise and compassion to his practice. 

Back in the early days of his academic career, he embarked on his journey in medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. in 1994. Following this, he pursued further specialization through a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Georgia, completing his training in Augusta in 1999. His commitment to excellence led him to undertake a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, culminating in 2002.

On a professional level, Dr. Francis holds the position of Chair in OB/GYN & Women’s Health at the School of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health, where he imparts his knowledge and experience to the next generation of medical professionals.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Francis’s contributions to his field have been recognized through various accolades, including being named to the esteemed Best Doctors in America list and receiving acknowledgment in Louisville Magazine’s Top Docs.
