Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Michael Sabia, who serves patients in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Dr. Sabia is a pain management specialist who believes in taking a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach when treating acute and chronic pain. 

His special interests include spinal cord stimulation, post laminectomy syndrome, radiofrequency ablation, and low back pain. He utilizes all resources available when treating pain, including but are not limited to: interventional techniques, physical therapy, acupuncture, medical management, and others. 

As the Division Head of the Pain Management Center at Cooper University Health Care – Voorhees Campus, Dr. Sabia oversees a team of physicians, APNs, residents, fellows, and office staff. He also started an ACGME-accredited Multidisciplinary Pain Medicine Fellowship Program at Cooper, ensuring that residents receive the proper training to become board-certified pain medicine physicians.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Sabia received his medical degree from the New York Medical College Fifth Pathway Program, before completing his residency in anesthesiology at Cooper University Hospital. Later, he completed his fellowship in pain medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Board-certified in both pain medicine and anesthesiology, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

On a professional level, Dr. Sabia is a member of several medical societies, including the American Academy of Pain Management, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists, the Camden County Medical Society, the Society of Academic Anesthesiology Associations, the Medical Society of New Jersey, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the Beta Beta Beta Honorary Society.

Among his editorial positions, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Pain Association, as well as an editorial board member of both the Journal of Pain Management and the Journal of Palliative Care and Medicine.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Sabia has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including Resident of the Quarter, Cooper University Hospital; The Marion Skriloff Scholarship Fund of the Rebekah State Assembly of NJ; Medtronic Fellowship Award, Beth Israel Medical Center; South Jersey Magazine “Top Docs” – 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015; SJ Magazine “Top Docs” – 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022; SJ Magazine “Top Docs Patient Poll” – 2020; New Jersey Monthly Magazine “Top Docs” – 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022; and South Jersey Magazine “Top Physicians”- 2020.
