Get to know Surgeon Dr. Abier A. Abdelnaby, who serves patients in Frisco, Texas. 

Dr. Abdelnaby is a surgeon serving Frisco and the surrounding communities. She is affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center, a health network consisting of over 40 locations, and several hundred clinics. At UT Southwestern patients can find experienced doctors and specialists to provide the care that they need close to home. 

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Abdelnaby is involved in clinical research and the training of medical students, residents, and fellows. She is the Program Director of UT Southwestern’s Global Health Surgery Fellowship and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. 

She is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, as well as colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Abdelnaby treats a wide variety of colorectal conditions, including anal and rectal pain, anal fissures, diverticulosis/diverticulitis, colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer, and more. She also performs approximately 700 colonoscopies per year.

“What I offer is more than a surgical approach to care,” Dr. Abdelnaby says. “It’s a comprehensive approach that combines skill with compassion.”

In regards to education, Dr. Abdelnaby earned her Medical Degree from Howard University College of Medicine in 2001. She went on to complete a residency in general surgery at Howard University Hospital in 2006 and a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery in 2007. 

To stay up to date in her field, Dr. Abdelnaby maintains a professional membership with the American College of Surgeons, the American Association of Women Surgeons, the American Medical Association, Physicians for Peace, and the North American Society for the Study of Personality Disorders, among other professional organizations.

Surgery is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate or treat a pathological condition such as a disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance, or to repair unwanted ruptured areas. As a surgeon, Dr. Abdelnaby is specialized in colorectal surgery and often treats conditions like rectal cancer, colon cancer, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and diverticulitis.
