Get to know Internist Dr. Charlotte A.H. Mitchell, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

As a board-certified internist, Dr. Mitchell specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of health disorders in adults. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she is a staff physician at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields and Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Illinois. 

As such, she provides long-term, comprehensive care, managing both common and complex illnesses of adolescents, adults, and the elderly. She is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, infections, and diseases affecting the heart, blood, kidneys, joints, as well as the digestive, respiratory, and vascular systems. She is also trained in the essentials of primary care internal medicine, which incorporates an understanding of disease prevention, wellness, substance abuse, mental health, and effective treatment of common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system, and reproductive organs.

Prior to her current endeavors, she served patients at Northwest Medical Associates, SC with office locations in Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields, Illinois. There, for a period of three decades, she focused on the treatment of chronic and acute illnesses such as, but not limited to, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, osteoporosis, and obesity.

In the early days of her academic career, Dr. Mitchell earned her medical degree from the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in 1987. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. 

A member of the American Medical Association and the Chicago Medical Society, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being. 

For her successful years of practice as an internist, Dr. Mitchell has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award din 2018 the Patients’ Choice Award in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018, and Compassionate Doctor Recognition 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018.
