Dr. Ibanez earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Panama – Faculty of Dentistry. He then went on to complete his internship in oral surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also completed his training in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.
Under the tutelage of Dr. John Zuniga, Dr. Ibanez learned TMJ surgery, facial pain management, as well as microsurgical nerve repair. During his facial trauma rotation at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, he expanded his knowledge of traumatic injuries further as taught by Dr. Raymond Fonseca and others.
Dr. Ibanez served as an Assistant Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he taught dental students and residents all aspects of oral & maxillofacial surgery. During this period, he was asked by his beloved Chairman from UNC, Dr. Timothy Turvey, to co-author a textbook chapter on orthognathic surgery.
Dr. Ibanez is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the American Society of Dental Anesthesiology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the Virginia Dental Association, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Shenandoah Valley Dental Association, the Charlottesville Albemarle Dental Society, and the Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Ibanez holds professional certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. In addition to English, Dr. Ibanez speaks Spanish.
