Get to know Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Carlos R. Ibanez, who serves patients in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Dr. Ibanez is an oral & maxillofacial surgeon currently serving patients’ dental needs at Charlottesville Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. He has extensive experience in advanced surgical procedures (including facial trauma), the placement of dental implants, the removal of wisdom teeth, bone grafting, and orthognathic (jaw-related) surgery. 

Charlottesville Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center offers various dental services, including the treatment of facial trauma, TMJ disorders, cleft lip & cleft palate, and more. It is Dr. Ibanez’s mission to provide his patients with the finest, state-of-the-art surgical treatment in a comfortable and safe environment while maintaining open lines of communication. Dr. Ibanez is also an attending surgeon with full privileges at Augusta Health Hospital in Fishersville, Virginia.

Dr. Ibanez earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Panama – Faculty of Dentistry. He then went on to complete his internship in oral surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also completed his training in oral & maxillofacial surgery at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.

Under the tutelage of Dr. John Zuniga, Dr. Ibanez learned TMJ surgery, facial pain management, as well as microsurgical nerve repair. During his facial trauma rotation at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, he expanded his knowledge of traumatic injuries further as taught by Dr. Raymond Fonseca and others.

Dr. Ibanez served as an Assistant Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he taught dental students and residents all aspects of oral & maxillofacial surgery. During this period, he was asked by his beloved Chairman from UNC, Dr. Timothy Turvey, to co-author a textbook chapter on orthognathic surgery. 

Dr. Ibanez is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the American Society of Dental Anesthesiology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the Virginia Dental Association, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Shenandoah Valley Dental Association, the Charlottesville Albemarle Dental Society, and the Virginia Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Ibanez holds professional certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. In addition to English, Dr. Ibanez speaks Spanish.
