About

Teresa Machel, MD, PhD, FRCP (C) grew up in Nazi occupied Poland, originally loving art, but choosing medicine as a career.  As an adult she attended Warsaw Medical Academy, receiving her degree in 1968.  She remained there for a fellowship, and PhD program in internal medicine.  Dr. Machel stayed in Poland with her family until 1980 before accepting positions at Bengasi University Libya where they worked for two years.  In 1982 she and her family  immigrated to Canada, living three years in Ontario, before settling in Nova Scotia.  In 1987 Dr. Machel became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and today works as a personal consultant.  When not practicing medicine, Machel puts her extraordinary artistic skills to use by participating in "Gallery for Seniors;"  a portable art gallery displaying the work of nursing home residents, and local artists.
