Get to know Otolaryngologist Dr. Betty S. Tsai, who teaches at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Tsai is an otolaryngologist who teaches at the University of Oklahoma and is affiliated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has seven years of experience specializing in otolaryngology and oncology. Educated at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Tsai completed an internship and residency at University of California and a fellowship at Vanderbilt University. She is board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Internal Medicine and is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Otolaryngology is a medical specialty which is focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also called otolaryngology-head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. An otolaryngologist is often called an ear, nose, and throat doctor, or an ENT for short. This medical specialty dates back to the 19th century, when doctors recognized that the head and neck contained a series of interconnected systems. Doctors developed techniques and tools for examining and treating problems of the head and neck, eventually forming a medical specialty. Dr. Tsai attributes her success to family support. When not teaching or assisting patients, she enjoys golfing and reading the Otolaryngology Journal.
