What is the safest dental filling?
It really depends on how deep the cavity is and how large a surface is affected by decay. For the most part, white composite filling is the restorations of choice. It’s esthetically please and can be used in the most conservative of restoration. It is color matched to be relatively unnoticeable in the mouth. It is also safer to use than amalgam fillings which are made up partially with mercury. READ MORE
How effective are fillings for baby teeth?
Fillings in baby teeth are very effective. Even though “baby teeth” are temporary, a parent must remember that they serve a very important job as being natural space holders for permanent teeth. There are 20 baby teeth that usually take 6 years to fully exfoliate. So, a child will start losing their baby teeth at age 6 and fully complete that process by age 12. Therefore, it’s in the best interest of the child to restore decayed teeth in order to maintain oral heathy. There is also a marked difference between permanent and primary. Since primary teeth are not meant to last beyond a certain number of years they are not as strong as permanent teeth. They structurally have thinner enamel so decay can spread faster and cause pulp damage at a quicker rate than in permanent teeth. READ MORE

Do children need fillings for baby teeth?
It really depends on which tooth is hurting. Baby molars usually do not start to exfoliate until age 10. The longer a parent waits to treat cavities in baby teeth the more serious the problem can get. The best way to determine if a tooth should be fixed or allowed to exfoliate is by taking an X-ray.
