Barbara Peterson, DDS, affectionately known as Dr. Bobbi, is redefining oral healthcare as a second-generation, HBCU-educated orthodontist and entrepreneur. As the founder of Aces Braces, a prominent orthodontic practice with locations in Brooklyn, New York, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Bobbi has dedicated her career to providing exceptional orthodontic services while advocating for equitable access to oral healthcare.

Founded in 2008, Aces Braces has become a beacon of comprehensive orthodontic care, addressing various malocclusions and alignment issues through customized treatment plans. Dr. Bobbi’s approach emphasizes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where patients can feel comfortable while receiving safe and effective orthodontic care. With a range of orthodontic appliances available, she ensures that each patient finds options that align with their aesthetic preferences and smile goals.

Dr. Bobbi’s passion for oral health began in her childhood in Newark, New Jersey, where she envisioned a career dedicated to helping others achieve beautiful, healthy smiles. She pursued her academic journey at Drexel University, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology before attending Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. Following dental school, Dr. Bobbi completed her residency at Kings County Hospital and further honed her skills in orthodontics at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, where she was one of only two candidates accepted each year. There, she obtained a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dental Facial Orthopedics.

Upon establishing Ace Braces, Dr. Bobbi quickly made a name for herself in the industry, providing quality care to multicultural and diverse communities in Brooklyn and Philadelphia. She also joined the Manhattan practice of Dr. Catrise Austin, known as the “Dentist to the Stars,” where she became the orthodontist of choice for many celebrities. Her professional affiliations include active membership in the American Association of Orthodontics, a Fellowship with the World Federation of Orthodontics, and a role as a Distinguished Consultant and Advisor in Dentistry to the National Institute of Medicine.

Dr. Bobbi is not only a skilled orthodontist; she is also a passionate advocate for minority representation in dentistry. Her dedication to her profession has led her to lecture extensively on orthodontic procedures, particularly focusing on African American children, and she has received numerous accolades, including the Award of Excellence from the National Board of Dental Sciences in 2013 and recognition as a Top Orthodontist in New York City by the International Association of Dentists in 2014.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Bobbi is the inventor of the innovative Big Mouth Toothbrush, an electric toothbrush designed to enhance oral hygiene. Featuring five unique settings—Clean, White, Polish, Massage, and Sensitive—the Big Mouth Toothbrush caters to various oral care needs. Its latest version, the Big Mouth Sonic Toothbrush 2.0, utilizes advanced sonic technology to deliver an impressive 50,000 vibrations per minute, providing users with a dentist-like clean. Featured on the acclaimed TV show “Shark Tank,” the toothbrush has gained significant attention for its transformative potential in oral care. She scored a deal with Barbara Corcoran.She has also set up a system for all doctors and dentists to profit of the sales of the toothbrushes in their offices!

Dr. Bobbi is proud to hold the distinction of being the first African American person and THE first Woman to design an electronic, battery-operated toothbrush. She is also the author of “Tanner’s Teeth,” a children’s book that celebrates the achievements of the first African American dentist, aiming to inspire young readers and promote diversity in the field of dentistry.

Despite the challenges she has faced throughout her career, Dr. Bobbi remains steadfast in her mission to help millions of Americans access quality dental care. Her dream is to create a smiling nation where everyone feels confident in their smile.
