Stuart Sanders's Expert Contributions
  • Privacy and confidentiality with caregivers

This is going to depend on Which State or Province you live in. It will also depend on your relationship to the client and whether he has capacity or not and if he does, whether he consents to you knowing the content of discussions with the Physician. I would always ask if I can talk to a family member or appointed agent to get collateral information and provide feedback. Stuart READ MORE

What do you attribute your success to?

  • Wanting to Help Seniors who are not Treated as Honorably as they Should Be, a committment to try to help people age gracefully with as much independence as possible and knowing how to listen and treat everyone as an equal. Even the demented have a need to be treated with dignity and respect. Early on in my career I saw little of those values and chose to go into Geriatric Psychiatry in the hopes I could change things for the better for at least those people I came into contact. For the same reason, I am an active member of the mental health ethics committee in Calgary

Teaching and speaking

  • Apart from holding a Clinical Associate Professor position at the University and being involved with teaching residents, I have presented at many conferences, including the British Colombia Psycho-geriatric Association annual scientific meeting on 4 occasions in 20 years, The "Shades of Grey " conference from Alberta Health services on 2 occasions and the Canadian Psychiatric Association AGM on 1 occasion. I have also given many public presentations and even had my own phone in show on Acess T.V. while on Vancouver Island
