HPV is the etiologic agent (cause) of cervical cancer. Over ninety nine percent of cervical cancer and pre cancer (dysplasia) have an associated HPV. This has been researched for years. Unfortunately, this is sexually transmitted in most instances. The most common types of cervical cancer, squamous and adeno are associated with HPV. There are 13 to 15 types of high risk HPV viruses.
