Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. In Sok Yi, who serves patients in Englewood, Colorado.

Dr. Yi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who brings a wealth of knowledge and clinical expertise within the field of hand and upper extremity surgery to his patients. He practices at Peak Orthopedics & Spine in Englewood, Colorado, which he joined back in 2012. 

Peak Orthopedics & Spine is a multi-specialty practice consisting of a group of orthopedic professionals who utilize innovative techniques and the latest technology to reach patients’ orthopedic goals. They specialize in leading edge techniques such as the anterior approach total hip replacement, custom fit knee replacement, full and partial joint replacement, motion preservation and disc replacement, motion preservation and disc replacement, spinal microdecompression, advanced anatomic shoulder repairs, arthroscopy, elbow surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, and fracture management for adults and children. From minimally invasive to complex procedures, they cover the full spectrum and remain committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for patients and their total satisfaction.

In his current capacity, the doctor can be found on staff at many metro Denver hospitals and facilities, including Porter Adventist Hospital, Sky Ridge Medical Center, Littleton Adventist Hospital, Rose Medical Center, the Medical Center of Aurora, Centennial Medical Center, and Parker Adventist Hospital. He also acts as both a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Orthopedics Department of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a preceptor to medical students from Rocky Vista University of Osteopathic Medicine. 

With a strong background in academic medicine, Dr. Yi earned his medical degree with distinction from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, completing his internship and residencies through the same system. He then moved into a prestigious hand and upper extremity fellowship at the University of New Mexico and its affiliated hospitals. He stayed at the University of New Mexico as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery – Division of Hand Surgery from 1998 to 2000, eventually moving to Denver to join Hand Surgery Associates in 2000.

A member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy for Orthopedic Surgeons, he received his board certification through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 2000, which is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. He completed his Certificate for Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand in 2001, and completed his board recertification in hand surgery in 2009.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. They work in clinical and hospital settings.

Attributing his success to hard work and attention to detail, Dr. Yi is the primary designer of the wrist replacement with the Arthrosurface Corporation, allowing patients to maintain their wrist motion rather than undergoing a fusion. He is also recognized as one of the original pioneers of the minimally invasive endoscopic carpal tunnel repair technique. His clinical skills, as well as his contributions to continuing medical education through ongoing lectures and publications on a national level, earned him the distinction of being named one of 5280 Magazine’s Top Doctors in 2007.

Outside of the office, he enjoys biking, skiing, and fishing.
