Steven Shwedel, DDS, has been practicing in Taylor, Michigan for more than 35 years at his private practice, Shwedel Dental. Dr. Shwedel is committed to offering patients the most advanced techniques and best materials in dentistry. The office is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and provides a warm, friendly and relaxed environment. Dr. Shwedel graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry and went on to complete post graduate training in general practice to sharpen his dental techniques. He's an active member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, the Michigan Dental Association, and a Fellow of the World Clinical Laser Institute. Dr. Shwedel is very involved in the Taylor Community, and hosted the 7th Annual "Dentistry from the Heart," a daylong event offering free dentistry to adults in need. He also proudly sponsors "Blessings in a Backpack" with the Taylor schools, ?Turn Off the Violence? with the Taylor Rotary, Taylor Little League, local health fairs, and Fish & Loaves Community Food Pantry. Speaking within his community on his expertise, Dr. Shwedel maintains Board certification with the esteemed American Board of General Dentistry as well.

What is a dry socket?
A dry socket occurs when a tooth is extracted and blood clot that normally protects the socket while healing takes place doesn't form or is dislodged. This results in the painful condition called dry socket. Essentially a direct opening into the bone where the extracted tooth was. To treat this the socket is irrigated with a solution to clean out all debris. A soothing paste on a special gauze is placed in the socket while it heals from the bottom up. READ MORE
