Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Weber Chen, who serves patients in California.

Dr. Chen is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist who is a part of the team of professionals at Los Angeles Cancer Network. Namely, he can be found on staff at Cotton Medical Center in Pasadena, California.

The mission of Los Angeles Cancer Network is to provide unparalleled care to each patient that comes through the door. Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Chen attended the University of Michigan and was a cum laude graduate of Loma Linda University with his undergraduate degree in Biology. He then earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. 

Furthering his training, he served as a resident and later a Chief Resident in internal medicine at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center of Seton Hall University School of Health and Medical Sciences in New Jersey. He went on to complete his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the said establishment.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in hematology and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Active in community outreach programs in the San Gabriel Valley Chinese community, Dr. Chen is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Medical Association. 

Licensed to practice medicine in California, he is affiliated with Garfield Medical Center, Methodist Hospital of Southern California, San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, USC Arcadia Hospital, and Los Angeles Community Hospital. 

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma. 

Among Dr. Chen’s various accolades include Patients’ Choice Award (2010, 2009, 2008), On-Time Doctor Award (2009), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2009).

On a more personal note, he speaks several languages, including English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese.
