Get to know Neurologist Dr. Angelo M. Alves, who serves patients in St. Petersburg, Florida. 

In practice since 1972, Dr. Alves is a board-certified neurologist who is affiliated with Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. 

Serving the community since 1976, Northside Hospital is a 288-bed facility, offering a full range of services, including but not limited to: interventional stroke and neurologic care, full-service orthopedic and spine treatment, a 24-hour emergency room, preventative and corrective cardiac care, as well as general surgery. As the first Comprehensive Stroke Center in St. Petersburg, the technologically advanced facility allows superior physicians and nursing staff to care for their growing community. With campus-based specialized units, such as the Tampa Bay Heart Institute and the Neuroscience Institute for Interventional Neuroradiology, Northside Hospital continues to enhance and expand its services to better serve the St. Petersburg community.

On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Alves earned his medical degree from the University of Porto - Faculty of Medicine in Porto, Portugal in 1960. He then went on to complete his internship training in Portugal and Saskatchewan, followed by his residency at the University of Alabama and his fellowship at the University of Kentucky. 

The doctor is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Among his many professional achievements, he has also been awarded several honors and recognitions, including Compassionate Doctor Recognition in 2014 and 2015, Patients’ Choice Award in 2014 and 2015, Top 10 Doctor - Metro Area in 2014, and Top 10 Doctor - State in 2014. Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as muscle. Neurologists are medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.
