Get to know Anesthesiologist and Neurosurgical Anesthesiologist Dr. Richard J. Pollard, who serves the Boston, Massachusetts area at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Pollard completed his undergraduate degree from Davidson College where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1987. He then completed Medical School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1991. After completing his Medical Degree, Dr. Pollard completed his Anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida, followed by a Neurosurgical anesthesia fellowship with the same institute. Dr. Pollard is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Pollard has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He currently practices with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where is part of the Department of Anesthesia and the Director of Neurosurgical Anesthesia Fellowship. He has Neurosurgical anesthesia and neurology specialists work closely with the neurosurgeons. This provides a strong continuum of acute care for patients and delivers the finest neurocritical services. It also promotes collaborations that enhance our clinical results while supporting our educational and research missions. The neurosurgical anesthesiologist helps achieve optimal operating conditions for the neurosurgeon while ensuring the patient maintains unconsciousness, good brain blood flow and oxygen levels, and receives appropriate pain management during and after the procedure.
